One such area that we hone in on is grip and its impact on the hands, wrists and fingers. Experiencing hand pain when playing? Keep reading to discover why… and how to remedy it.
What causes golf hand pain?
Hand pain can come from several things throughout the golf swing, particularly your grip on the clubs. If your grip is too tight or not correct, you are likely to experience strain. Overuse and repetitive motions, without building up prior muscle, can also cause strain on the muscles, which can leave your hands feeling stiff and sore. It’s also important to check for any underlying conditions. Arthritis or carpal tunnel could be aggravated during the golf swing. Fortunately, our team can help you build around these conditions, so you can still enjoy your love of the game.
How to fix golf hand pain
Loosen your grip - Focus on holding the club as you would a tube of toothpaste. Too tight and too much toothpaste will come out. Too loose and you won’t get any. Stay firm, but don’t crush the club. It should be secure in your hand, but it shouldn’t be causing pain.
Upgrade your grips - Worn or outdated grips can cause pain. Focus on softer or thicker grips that are more arthritic friendly or ergonomic. These can help you play longer without pain.
Warm up and stretch - During your warm up, it’s critical to consider your back, hips and shoulders. But, it’s also critical not to neglect your hands. Stretch out your wrists, fingers and forearms before and after you play.
Take time to rest - We know you want to spend as much time on the course as possible. If pain persists, however, rest is essential. Even a few days off can keep you playing longer and stronger in the future.
Chat with the BioGolf team - With a deep understanding of the body and how it all works together to form a great swing, we can assess your grip to help you not only comprehend where your pain is coming from, but also how to improve it.
